Factions is a PvP-focused Minecraft server game mode where players form organized groups, claim and defend territory, and raid enemy bases for resources.

The mode relies on specialized plugins that manage land ownership, player power levels, and territorial warfare mechanics.

How Factions Servers Work

The game mode operates on five core mechanical systems:

1. Power system: Each player contributes power to their faction. Death reduces individual power. Total faction power determines maximum claimable land chunks.
2. Land claiming: Factions claim Minecraft chunks (16x16 block areas) using in-game commands. Claims cost faction power, claimed land prevents enemy building and block breaking.
3. Overclaim mechanics: If a faction's power drops below their claimed land total, enemies can overclaim their chunks. This creates the strategic loop: kill enemies → reduce their power → steal their territory.
4. Raiding permissions: Players cannot break blocks in enemy claims under normal conditions. TNT cannons and specific explosives bypass this protection, creating breaches in base walls. Some servers add "obsidian breakers" or "creeper eggs" for alternate raid methods.
5. Faction banks and economies: Most Factions servers integrate economy plugins. Factions pool money in shared banks to purchase upgrades like TNT, spawners, or enhanced claim protection.
6. Faction relationships: Factions set diplomatic status with others: ally, truce, neutral, or enemy. Allies cannot damage each other's claims. Enemies can raid freely.
