Frequently Asked Questions
We've got answers for everything you need. If you don't find your answers here, contact us directly.
A librarian. Any librarian from Novice to Expert can offer a Mending book for 10 to 38 emeralds plus a book. On Java only about 1 in 60 new librarians has one, so break and replace its lectern until Mending shows up, before you trade with it.
Break its job site block before you trade with it. The villager loses its job, and when you put the block back it picks new trades. After even one trade it keeps its job and its trades for good.
Cure a zombie villager. Hit it with a Splash Potion of Weakness, then feed it a golden apple. Once it's cured, big trades like armor, tools and enchanted books drop by about 25 emeralds for you, the rest by about 6, and nothing goes below 1. Curing it again adds nothing. Tick Cured villager above to see the new prices. To see it done, watch this video from 2:23.
On Java a villager gets up to two new trades each time it levels up, picked at random from that level's list, so up to 10 in total. On Bedrock some trades always show up and the rest are picked from small groups.
Trade with it. Every trade gives the villager experience, and it reaches Apprentice at 10, Journeyman at 70, Expert at 150 and Master at 250. Trades from higher levels give more experience.
It needs to reach its job site block. Villagers restock up to twice a day while they work there, so a librarian that can't walk to its lectern never restocks. If you buy a trade out, its price also goes up for a while.
Barely. The trades and prices are almost the same, but Bedrock fills set slots at each level instead of picking two at random, and a few numbers differ, like the farmer's cake costing 1 emerald instead of 3. This tool shows Java 26.3.
An experiment you can turn on when you create a world, still off by default in Java 26.3. It changes librarians and armorers. Librarians sell books based on their village's biome, and only master librarians from a swamp sell Mending. This tool shows the normal trades.
