Type § and a code in front of your text, like §bHello for aqua. It works in chat, on signs and hanging signs, in books and in item names on an anvil. If your keyboard has no § key, copy a code from the table.

On iPhone, hold the & key and pick §. On Android, it's on the second page of symbols on most keyboards. On Xbox, hold A on the S key to see more letters. On Switch, it's on the Symbol keyboard. On Windows, hold Alt and type 0167 on the number pad.

Type § and a color code before the text, like §cDanger. You don't need any dye. Add §l in front for bold text.

Bedrock uses them for two of its armor trim colors: §m is Redstone and §n is Copper. So Bedrock has no strikethrough or underline codes, only §k, §l, §o and §r.

On Bedrock, bold and italic stay on after a color code. Type §r to clear them, then the next color, like §l§6Bold §r§fplain.

Bedrock's newer menus, like the world list, don't support color codes, so the name shows without its colors there. The codes still work in chat, on signs, in books and in item names.

No. Bedrock only has the fixed § colors in the table. Custom hex colors are a Java feature, used in commands and plugins.

Mostly. §0 to §f are the same codes on both, but Bedrock draws gray (§7) and blue (§9) in other shades and adds 13 colors of its own. §m and §n are strikethrough and underline on Java but colors on Bedrock.
