Build it one layer at a time, like a stack of circles. Pick a diameter, start at layer 1 on the ground and work your way up, copying each layer block by block. Put a pillar up the middle first so every layer stays centered, then take it down at the end. The faint blocks show the layer underneath, so you can see where the next ring steps in or out.

A hollow sphere 21 blocks across takes 1,082 blocks, and a filled one takes 4,945. The tool shows the count for the layer you're on and for the whole build, and it updates as you change the size, style or dome setting.

Turn on Dome and the tool keeps the top half of the sphere, starting from its widest layer, with the floor left open. Turn on Custom height to make the dome flatter or taller. A dome 21 blocks wide is 11 layers tall and takes 569 blocks with a thin wall.

Thin is a hollow shell with the fewest blocks. Where it curves, some blocks only touch at their edges. Thick adds blocks in those spots so every block meets the next one face to face. Filled is a solid ball. Both hollow styles keep water and mobs out.

Download the .schematic, put it in WorldEdit's schematics folder and run //schem load sphere-21x21, then //paste -a -s. It pastes in stone, centered on you with the bottom layer at your feet, and //replace stone glass then swaps it for any block. For odd sizes you can also type //hsphere stone 10 for the same thin sphere 21 blocks across, or //sphere stone 10 for a filled one.

Odd sizes have one middle block, so a one block wide pillar or door lines up with the center, and WorldEdit can make the same shape. Even sizes have a 2 by 2 middle and two matching middle layers. Both come out just as round.
