How to Secure Your Minecraft Server Against Griefs and Exploits

A step-by-step guide on how to secure your Minecraft server against hackers and griefers.

Last updated on  Feb 13, 2026

Protecting your server starts with smart settings, plugins, and extra layers for cracked setups. This guide covers both non-cracked (premium) and cracked servers to keep griefers and hackers out.

How to Secure Your Server (Cracked & Premium)

These are the most basic steps you can take to ensure your server stays safe.

  1. Enabling Whitelist. Whitelist makes sure that only players you approve can join your server. This can prevent random griefers from joining.
  2. Keeping your plugins/mods updated. Exploiters and hackers usually exploit outdated plugins or mods, so make sure that they are up-to-date.
  3. Daily backups. Taking daily backups ensures minimal progression loss due to an exploiter or hacker.

Anti-Grief Plugins

  1. GriefPrevention - Allows players to claim land and prevent griefers from destroying their builds.
  2. CoreProtect - Tracks if any griefing has been done and reverses the damage.
  3. LuckPerms - Permission manager that allows you to control who can do what.

Anti-Cheat Plugins

  1. Grim Anticheat - One of the most used anti-cheats ever. Very reliable despite being free and open-source.
  2. Themis Anticheat - A good anticheat that focuses on accuracy and simplicity.
  3. Intave Anticheat (PAID) - A great premium anti-cheat that is designed to detect and prevent various hacks.
  4. Polar Anticheat (PAID) - A very good anticheat for medium to large-sized communities.

How to Secure Your Server (Cracked)

If your server allows cracked players, the only recommendation is to install an authentication plugin/mod.
